My photography career got its start when my daughter began riding horses competitively. Picking up a camera helped calm my nerves as I watched Emily and her horse ride faster and jump higher than I thought anyone in their right mind should. “Focus on getting the shot,” a seasoned show mom told me, “and you won’t focus on the rest.”
Sharing my horse-show photos with friends was fun and rewarding and spurred me to hone my photography skills. Before long, I was teaching myself portrait photography, using my younger daughter, Caroline, as a subject. My love of the outdoors went hand in hand with what I turned my camera on next: animals, flowers, and landscapes.
I enjoy taking photos that make people smile, and I especially love taking close-up shots of everyday details that often go unnoticed.
